At ELM Insulation and Sound Solutions, we recently completed a radiant barrier and insulation installation project in Arcadia.

The homeowner wanted to improve energy efficiency by upgrading both the attic insulation and the roof’s ability to reflect heat, creating a more comfortable home while reducing unnecessary heat buildup during warmer months.

Our team installed a new radiant barrier across the underside of the roof, removed the old attic insulation, and replaced it with new fiberglass batt insulation.

Together, these upgrades help reduce radiant heat transfer while improving the home’s overall thermal performance.

The Concern

The attic was allowing excessive heat to collect beneath the roof, making it more difficult to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures throughout the home.

Although insulation slows heat transfer between living spaces and the attic, it cannot stop radiant heat coming directly from a hot roof. The homeowner wanted a more complete solution that would improve overall energy efficiency and reduce the workload on the HVAC system.

The Solution

Our experienced crew began by installing a radiant barrier across the underside of the roof decking. Unlike insulation, which slows conductive heat transfer, a radiant barrier reflects a large portion of radiant heat away from the attic, helping keep attic temperatures lower during hot weather.

After completing the radiant barrier installation, we carefully removed the old insulation and prepared the attic for new materials.

We then installed new fiberglass batt insulation throughout the attic, providing even thermal coverage that works alongside the radiant barrier to improve comfort, increase energy efficiency, and support long-term HVAC performance.

The Result

The completed attic now provides a stronger defense against heat gain while delivering improved year-round comfort and energy efficiency.

The radiant barrier reflects heat before it enters the attic, while the fiberglass batt insulation helps slow remaining heat transfer into the living space.
